Frequently Asked Questions

How do we travel?

We run a unique, diverse and interesting fleet. Currently we have old a 2016 Mercedes Sprinter that handles our larger group bookings. This vehicle that we loving refer to as ‘The Rig’ has been tweaked to suit our needs, so it looks and rides a little differently than your run-of-the-mill Sprinter.

Our small group vehicle is a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan all-wheel-drive. Our luxury go-cart!

How will my bike be transported and housed?

We have a variety of trailers and racks which allow us to change our configuration depending on the tour, all whilst ensuring your bikes and gear are safe and secure.

Our primary trailer is a fully enclosed custom engineered dual axle trailer made locally to our specifications. It accommodates eight bikes on pull out Yakima front loader racks. This is the other half of ‘The Rig’.

Within Derby we have a full time Black Diamond shuttle trailer and like all things, we have had this tweaked to our own specifications. Namely, a heavier build spec to stop rough road bouncing, as well as 50 litres of water and a pressure pump so we can always keep drive trains clean and running sweet.

Lastly we have our baggage trailer, fully carpet lined with water proof seals. This trailer typically goes with our go cart (VW Tiguan) and houses the go cart’s Black Diamond three-bike vertical rack with swing away (attached to the back of the trailer). The Tiguan also has two Yakima front loader racks on its roof.

Can I make a solo booking just for me?

Yes you can, we cater to solo travellers. You can either book onto one of our multi day guided or self guided tours, or we create a custom tour just for you.

How fit do I need to be?

Our suggested baseline is that you can walk 7km, run 3km, swim 1km or bike 10km without a break, depending on your choice of sport.

What sort of riding skills do I need?

Ideally you’re comfortable on blue trails at a minimum. For the most part we host intermediate and elite riders. Some areas like Derby and St Helens are great for a range of riders. Maydena is definitely more demanding, although it’s family friendly too. The West Coast is rugged and an intermediate level of riding is recommended.

Can you ride in winter?

Yes you can, but unfortunately we are closed over the winter months. Our tour season starts in October and finishes in April.

Which bike should I bring?

An enduro e-bike with 140mm – 160mm travel is an ideal stead to get everything done and maximise riding. That said conventional bikes as well as cross country and hard tails are suitable. It ultimately comes down to what trails you are riding, your ability and how comfortable you are on the bike.

I want to bring my E-bike but can’t fly with the battery?

Yes, that’s correct. But, we have two options for you:

  1. Battery hire is available in some areas, and we can arrange this on your behalf. We just need to know the type of battery and what bike it’s for; or,

  2. You can drop your battery out and ship it to us ahead of time. We will then store it until your tour and then ship it back to you afterwards. Please note, this is at your expense.

Can I hire a bike?

Yes, we have partnership arrangements with hire companies who have a fleet of Trek and Mondraker bikes. Select the bike hire option when you book. We’ll take your height and weight details and arrange a bike on your behalf.

Note, all our Guided Multi-Day Packages already include e-Bike hire and helmet.

What clothing and protective gear do I need?

We suggest you wear a full-face helmet, gloves, knee and elbow pads, a long-sleeved jersey, short or long pants and MTB shoes. A back brace or camel pack fitted with a back brace is also helpful.

Should I bring tools?

Bring what you normally carry when you ride. As a minimum, we suggest a multi-tool, spare tube, tyre levers, CO2 cartridge and chain joining link. We carry reasonable spares in our vehciles and will make sure you have basic spares before heading off. There are also plenty of bike shops along the way.

Where do we stay?

All accommodation is booked for you. We work with a range of self-contained, beautifully appointed options.

Where do we eat and is it included?

We always suggest a grocery stop heading into the riding areas to stock up on basic supplies. We will make that stop with you on the way.

We suggest on long riding days where we ride adventure trails or back country trails to pack snacks. We provide lunch on all riding days.

Dinner bookings are made by us, and you choose and pay for the kind of meal you prefer.

Do we ride all day?

You ride as much or as little as you want. Our start time is whatever time you want to get going and our finish time is the same. Our drivers and guides will talk with you each afternoon to discuss the following day and what time you want to kick off.

When’s the best time to come?

October through to April. But it’s Tasmania and we’ve had snow in January before! Always pack for a day at the beach as well as a day in the snow and you should be right.

How much luggage can I bring?

Bring your bike in its bag and up to 32kg of luggage. If you need to bring more than 32kg please let us know ahead of time. If need be you can always ship gear ahead of time to us and we can store it until your tour and then send it back to you.

Where will I meet the driver when I arrive?

On arrival at Launceston Airport your driver will be waiting outside the exit door to the left. At Hobart Airport your driver will be waiting outside the exit door across the road and to the left. Our drivers are easy to spot, they look like a tree with brown pants or shorts and green Into The Wild tops.

Lastly you will also receive a text message on the day you are due to arrive with details of your trip and your drivers name and contact number.

What happens if I can’t find the bus or driver?

We have your flight details, so if we are not there, check your phone for a message from us. You will also have our drivers details and if none of that works, just give us a call 0427 477 553.
